IE New York (IENYC) is New York City’s College For the Common Good. Dedicated to education through the lens of sustainability, IENYC leverages nearly 150 years of academic excellence to bring a distinctly global perspective to its degree programs. Founded by Glasgow Caledonian University (GCU), IENYC is the first international institution in the United States to receive degree-granting authority in New York State.

IENYC shares the Glasgow Caledonian history of moving beyond the traditional role of academia to contribute to society by widening access to education, promoting business as a global instrument for change and enabling innovation. This commitment is encapsulated in our Common Good Mission and dedication to systemic change through applied research in the field of sustainability. IENYC is part of a worldwide network of campuses located in Glasgow, London, Oman, Bangladesh, and Africa. IENYC is helping transform education and industry alike for the Common Good with organizations in New York and around the world.

Glasgow Caledonian University has founded three schools and four partnership locations around the world. Some of GCU’s accomplishments in fostering positive social change include:
- The first Scottish university to join the UN Global Compact, a groundbreaking initiative in responsible corporate management

The main Scottish campus, located in Glasgow’s city-center,provides an excellent academic experience for more than 20,000 students from over 100 countries around the world. It has been ranked in the top 200 young universities worldwide according to Times Higher Education. As a leader in the fields of business and management, engineering and the built environment, as well as health, life and social sciences, GCU is home to a global network of academic and industry experts and an internationally respected research community.
GCU London
Located in an ultra-modern environment in the heart of the international fashion and finance capital of London, this professional graduate campus draws on high-quality teaching and global industry partnerships including the British School of Fashion.
IE New York
IENYC offers in-person and online Master of Science degrees focused on business for social impact, and sustainable fashion. IENYC’s curriculum is based around the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Caldonia College of Engineering.
GCU has partnered with the award-winning Caledonian College of Engineering since 1996, and offers the college’s largest transnational education program. From Oman, GCU has graduated more female engineers than any other college in that part of the world.
Grameen Caledonian College of Nursing
Established as a social business in 2010, the Grameen Caledonian College of Nursing (GCCN) is a visionary partnership between GCU and the Grameen Healthcare Trust. GCCN provides high-quality healthcare education in Bangladesh, focusing on nurse midwifery to address infant mortality. GCCN was recognized with a Unilever Global Development Award, supported by Business Fights Poverty.
University of Johannesburg
Through a partnership with Transnet Freight Rail and the University of Johannesburg, GCU offers a BSc in Railway Operations Management. The collaboration was showcased at the South Africa UK Bilateral Forum as an “excellent example of partnership” between the nations.
African Leadership University
GCU and the African Leadership Academy in Mauritius launched a joint partnership in transnational education–the African Leadership University This world-class tertiary institution offers affordable programs centered around leadership development.

IE New York plays a pivotal role in GCU’s global network of teaching and research, giving students unique access to international thought leaders and stakeholders. Together, we are working with industry experts to pilot sustainability solutions to common business challenges. Our Master of Science degrees center on the importance of applied research, and all our students write a master’s thesis to contribute to their field of study.

Through research, community engagement and cross-sectoral collaboration, the Center for Social Impact & Innovation, IENYC seeks to re-imagine commerce and consumption as forces for a regenerative future. Leveraging IENYC’s international legacy, the Center provides opportunities for broad-range cultural and intellectual exchange in service to global scholarship, social impact, and a circular economy.
Center for Social Business and Health, GCU
The Yunus Centre for Social Business and Health is named in honor of Professor Muhammad Yunus, Chancellor of GCU and winner of the Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts to advance social and economic opportunities for the poor through work on microcredit. The center is one of the world’s foremost leaders in work that aims to transform the lives of vulnerable communities through pioneering research in the areas of microfinance, social business and health economics.
Center for Climate Justice, GCU
The Glasgow Caledonian University Centre for Climate Justice takes a global lead in the delivery of high-quality, policy-relevant research for development, teaching, learning and broadening knowledge in the area of climate justice. At the center’s heart is the Climate Justice Repository, which was created in collaboration with the Mary Robinson Foundation for Climate Justice. The repository is a globally unique knowledge base, which contains a collection of over 1,000 peer-reviewed academic papers in the field of climate justice.
