Yet even in Manhattan, the city\u2019s most vibrant and fast-moving borough, there are plenty of green spaces where you can slow down and take a break from the noise.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The borough of Manhattan\u2014home to IE New York College\u2014is a sprawling landscape of skyscrapers and iconic landmarks. But it\u2019s also packed with green spaces, meaning you never have to go far to find somewhere to take a break from the hustle and bustle.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>From the world-famous Central Park to lesser-known spaces like <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycgovparks.org\/parks\/septuagesimo-uno\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Septuagesimo Uno<\/a>\u2014which, at 0.04 acres, is famously one of New York\u2019s smallest parks\u2014Manhattan offers a remarkable variety of public spaces for its residents and visitors to enjoy.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-must-see-green-spaces-in-manhattan-nbsp\">Must-see green spaces in Manhattan&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-the-high-line-nbsp\">The High Line&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thehighline.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">elevated park<\/a> in western Manhattan is built on old rail lines, originally used for delivering meat and products to factories. It stretches for over two kilometers and features art installations, gardens and panoramic views of the city. And it\u2019s only a 15-minute walk from IENYC.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-hudson-river-park-nbsp\">Hudson River Park&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Manhattan&#8217;s second-largest park lies along the Hudson River waterfront in the West Village area. An extremely popular spot with locals, <a href=\"https:\/\/hudsonriverpark.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hudson River Park<\/a> features walking paths, sports facilities and piers. It also offers a year-round program of cultural, sports and community events\u2014and don\u2019t miss the incredible sunsets!&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-washington-square-park-nbsp\">Washington Square Park&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This <a href=\"https:\/\/washingtonsqpark.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">historic and vibrant park<\/a> can be found in Greenwich Village, just a seven-minute walk from IE New York College. It\u2019s the crossroads of the city: a hub of culture, diversity and community. The park features a famous arch that was built in honor of George Washington, as well as tree-lined paths and lawns. It often hosts protests, artistic performances and celebrations.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-madison-square-park-nbsp\">Madison Square Park&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>In Manhattan\u2019s Flatiron District, <a href=\"https:\/\/madisonsquarepark.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Madison Square Park<\/a> is an urban oasis in the middle of the city. It became a public space in 1847 and is named after the fourth US president, James Madison. The park is a popular spot for workers on their lunch breaks, offering quiet and green surroundings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-roosevelt-island-nbsp\">Roosevelt Island&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Though technically part of Manhattan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cityneighborhoods.nyc\/roosevelt-island\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Roosevelt Island<\/a> is a two-mile-long island in the middle of the East River. You can get there by subway, ferry or a famous overhead tramway that offers spectacular views. Once home to hospitals, asylums and prisons, it is now a green haven of parks and tree-lined promenades.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-greenacre-park-nbsp\">Greenacre Park&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Hidden between the skyscrapers in Midtown East is <a href=\"https:\/\/greenacrepark.org\/visit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Greenacre<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/greenacrepark.org\/visit\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\"> Park<\/a>, a tiny green space of only 0.15 acres. Despite its location, the park is surprisingly peaceful, due to its 25-foot waterfall, which masks the city noise. There are tables, chairs and benches throughout the park, inviting visitors to rest and take in their surroundings.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-fort-tryon-park-nbsp\">Fort Tryon Park&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.forttryonparktrust.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">This park<\/a> in Upper Manhattan is home to The Met Cloisters and some of the best Hudson River views in the city. Heather Garden offers four seasons of beautiful flowers and plants, and there are also walking trails and woodlands. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nycgovparks.org\/parks\/inwood-hill-park\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Inwood Hill Park<\/a>\u2014the last natural forest in Manhattan\u2014is right next door.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-east-midtown-waterfront-nbsp\">East Midtown Waterfront&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>This is <a href=\"https:\/\/edc.nyc\/project\/east-midtown-waterfront\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">an ongoing project<\/a> that aims to inject new life into a large area alongside the East River, with thoughtfully designed waterfront paths that offer a slice of nature with greenery, benches, bike lanes and great views.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-elevated-acre-nbsp\">Elevated Acre&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>More proof that green spaces don\u2019t need to be at ground level, this <a href=\"https:\/\/marveldesigns.com\/project\/the-elevated-acre-at-55-water-st\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hidden rooftop lawn<\/a> can be found above a parking garage in the Financial District and is accessed via an elevator or stairs. It has amphitheater-style seating, landscaped gardens and lawn, and great views of the East River and the Brooklyn Bridge.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"h-central-park-an-icon-of-manhattan-nbsp\">Central Park\u2014an icon of Manhattan&nbsp;<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>No article about green spaces in Manhattan would be complete without giving a nod to the most famous of them all. Central Park spans around 843 acres\u2014<a href=\"https:\/\/www.frommers.com\/destinations\/new-york-city\/things-to-do\/central-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">about 6%<\/a> of Manhattan\u2019s total land area. It offers visitors a variety of experiences, from well-known locations like the Bethesda Terrace and Fountain, Bow Bridge and the John Lennon memorial, to these more off-the-beaten-track areas:&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.centralparknyc.org\/locations\/the-ramble\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">The Ramble<\/a>: 36 acres of woodland to wander around and forget that you\u2019re in the middle of one of the busiest cities in the world.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.centralparknyc.org\/locations\/hallett-nature-sanctuary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hallett Nature Sanctuary<\/a>: A wooded area that was opened to the public in 2016 following a large restoration project.\u00a0<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.centralparknyc.org\/locations\/the-loch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">North Woods and Loch<\/a>: The North Woods are the largest area of woodland in Central Park.
