In this edition, we meet\u00a0Milena Avagyan<\/strong>, a 22-year-old from Armenia studying a Bachelor in Business Administration<\/a> in the\u00a03+1 program<\/strong>, an accelerated pathway that lets students begin their master\u2019s degree while completing their undergraduate studies.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

For Milena, the program, and the city, represent an uncompromising invitation to grow, stretch, and become the version of herself\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0always aimed for.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why New York, and why now<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

When the opportunity to come to IENYC<\/a> arrived, Milena\u00a0didn\u2019t\u00a0take it lightly. It meant stepping into a new country, a new\u00a0pace, a\u00a0new expectation of who she could become.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt felt scary at first,\u201d she admits, \u201cbut I decided to take on the challenge.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What\u00a0ultimately convinced\u00a0her\u00a0wasn\u2019t\u00a0just the academic structure. It was\u00a0purpose<\/strong>.\u00a0Milena has long been driven by social impact, by the idea that business has the power to uplift communities and create meaningful change.\u00a0\u201cI value social impact<\/strong> very deeply,\u201d she explains. \u201cLearning how to strive toward impact in the business world sounded priceless.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And then, of course, there was New York City itself:\u00a0its magnetism, its intensity, and its promise.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe opportunities you find here can never be found anywhere, and you shouldn\u2019t miss the chance to live here in your youth.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

What made her choose\u00a0this<\/em>\u00a0moment to take the leap?\u00a0\u201cI realized that if I ever wanted to grow, I had to challenge myself and take risks that I know will make my life better.\u201d\u00a0MIlena’s story shows that growth rarely feels comfortable. But\u00a0that\u2019s\u00a0exactly<\/strong> why she came.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ultimate classroom<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

At IENYC<\/a>, the program and the city work together;\u00a0one providing structure, the other stretching your limits. For Milena, that combination has reshaped the way she learns, leads, and engages with others.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Academically,\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0pushed into high-level thinking. Personally,\u00a0she\u2019s\u00a0pushed into self-awareness.\u00a0<\/strong>But the biggest shift\u00a0hasn\u2019t\u00a0been about theory…\u00a0it\u2019s\u00a0been about people.\u00a0\u201cA skill I am truly learning here is listening to others,\u201d she says. \u201cNot listening to\u00a0respond, but\u00a0listening to understand.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Whether in team meetings, presentations, or informal conversations, Milena has learned to pause, absorb, and genuinely consider the ideas around her before jumping in. \u201cThis is essential for teamwork, leadership, and even personal relationships.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s\u00a0a quiet skill, but one that changes everything;\u00a0from how a team\u00a0operates\u00a0to how a person grows.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Where learning meets the real world<\/strong> <\/h2>\n\n\n\n

Like many IENYC<\/a> students, Milena is discovering that the real lessons often appear in the pressure of deadlines, the complexity of group dynamics, and the pace of the city.\u00a0\u201cThere are so many things I\u2019ve learned since coming here,\u201d she says.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The first is collaboration<\/strong>:\u00a0how to work toward a shared goal even when the path\u00a0isn\u2019t\u00a0linear.\u00a0\u201cEvery group project makes it easier and easier to collaborate with others and understand people better.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second is adaptability<\/strong>. Moving to a new city is one thing; adjusting to its speed is another.\u00a0\u201cCompletely changing your environment and having to get used to it in a matter of days is not easy at all,\u201d she reflects. \u201cBut once you get to the other side, you realize how high the rewards are.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And the third,\u00a0and\u00a0perhaps the\u00a0most crucial,\u00a0is initiative<\/strong>.\u00a0<\/p>\n<\/div>

\u201cIn life, no one is going to hand you opportunities,\u201d she says. \u201cYou have to be proactive, and this program gives you the tools to do that.\u201d\u00a0<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

It\u2019s the kind of mindset that turns students into leaders, and possibility into action. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Milena describes her experience in three words: Excitement, Growth, Fun.<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

But underneath those words is something deeper: strength. \u201cI\u2019ve learned that I\u2019m more adaptable than I realized,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd taking on something this big has helped me grow as a person.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Looking forward, Milena feels grounded in her purpose and clearer about her path. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIENYC is helping me understand what type of career I want to pursue next,\u201d she says. \u201cAnd it\u2019s helping me navigate the complex job market of NYC through resources, networking events, and mentorship.\u201d <\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Most importantly, she\u2019s learning how to turn her passion for social impact into sustainable, practical action in the business world. \u201cThis support is what\u2019s helping me take the next steps with confidence.\u201d <\/p>\n<\/div>

Her academic journey took her from studying Spanish and French and Secondary Education at the University of Southern Mississippi to graduate studies in Spain, where she completed a Master\u2019s in Spanish at the University of Salamanca and a Master\u2019s in Translation and Interpretation at the University of Alcal\u00e1.
