What they discovered went beyond strategy. It revealed the human side of leadership inside a global institution.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What is UN 2.0? A quick breakdown<\/strong><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>UN 2.0 is a future-focused vision launched by UN Secretary-General Ant\u00f3nio Guterres to modernize the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\">United Nations<\/a> and make it more agile, innovative, and effective in a fast-changing world. supporting both staff development and the UN\u2019s broader mission to deliver on the Sustainable Development Goals.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Their analysis focused on four key areas:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Governance:<\/strong> How learning is structured, managed, and implemented across entities.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Platforms &amp; Accessibility:<\/strong> How staff discover and access learning opportunities across multiple systems.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Learning Impact:<\/strong> How participation and outcomes are measured and linked to capability development.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Cross-Entity Collaboration:<\/strong> How departments coordinate, share knowledge, and scale best practices.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As Ana reflects: <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-64aa8fa229e1c44d78a8a5c2ef705c13\"><em>&#8220;This project made us realize that learning isn\u2019t just about knowledge. It\u2019s about empowerment. It\u2019s about transforming not just systems but culture, and it was amazing to be a part of that reflection process.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Collaboration across cultures and contexts<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Working with the UN meant&nbsp;operating&nbsp;in a truly global rhythm.&nbsp;Different time zones, communication styles, and cultural norms required the team to be <strong>intentional<\/strong> about how they listened, clarified ideas, and aligned expectations.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Max reflects: \u201cWe had to learn how to communicate in a global context, where every word carries different meaning depending on where you\u2019re from.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Success in the capstone project and contributing to the learning strategy at the UN&nbsp;didn&#8217;t&nbsp;just involve teamwork. Rather, it was global collaboration in motion, where empathy and adaptability matter just as much as&nbsp;expertise.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>Connecting purpose with daily practice<\/strong>&nbsp;<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 35%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>A central part of the project involved understanding how learning connects to impact.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Through research and analysis, the students explored how behavioral science, foresight, and innovation shape decision-making inside the UN. The team navigated ambiguity, evolving expectations, and real-world constraints.&nbsp;This is the IENYC model in action:<strong> learning by doing<\/strong>, adjusting in real time, and taking responsibility for outcomes.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIt felt like we were inside a real consultancy,\u201d Ana says. \u201cEvery week was about refining ideas, managing expectations, and learning how to lead through uncertainty.\u201d&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The experience strengthened not only technical skills, but resilience, grit, self-awareness, and confidence.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key takeaways<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>By the end of the UN capstone, Ana, Max, and Sophie understood global leadership more clearly and walked away with a key insight: leadership starts with people. There were moments where we didn\u2019t have clear answers, and that forced us to think critically and work together creatively.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And for Max, the takeaway was lasting: \u201cProgress can be slow, but it\u2019s possible, and our generation has a role to play in making it real.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Together, their reflections underscore the<strong> core lesson of the experience: <\/strong>global leadership starts with people, is shaped through collaboration, and is learned by doing; exactly the mindset, and skill set, IENYC prepares its students to carry into the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>Ready to make your next move?
