It was <strong>infrastructure<\/strong>: financial, institutional, and human. To make it in NYC&#8230; and anywhere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why New York, and why now<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI was born in Geneva, Switzerland, in 2001, to an Italian mother and a French father. Growing up, I had the opportunity to live in seven different countries.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This international upbringing shaped how he approaches <strong>risk, communication, and trust<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-243373ca0e5c09af2f8555ab84146782\"><em>\u201cThis international upbringing played a fundamental role in shaping my adaptability, open-mindedness, and ability to build meaningful relationships across cultures.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>After completing his Bachelor in Business Administration at IE University in Madrid, he continued through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ie.edu\/university\/studies\/ie-university-and-ienyc-global-partnership\/\">3+1 pathway<\/a> at IENYC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 37%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy experience at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ie.edu\/university\/about\/study-in-madrid\/\">IE in Madrid<\/a> had been so impactful that I felt ready to take on a <strong>new challenge<\/strong>: a new university,<strong> a new city, and even bigger ambitions<\/strong>.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New York added scale and intensity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-011b4247dad6c784145f880f1b5bf5f8\"><em>\u201cArriving in New York without permanent housing and navigating the intensity of the city while managing a rigorous academic program and an early-stage entrepreneurial project forced me to adapt quickly.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>For him, the move meant proximity to:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Global financial markets<\/strong><\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Institutional decision-makers<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Investors and operators<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Real-time industry conversations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-8b09bdabb104c2806fc09fe6464ff2d8\"><em>\u201cSharing the pressure of exams and presentations with classmates at the SoHo campus, attending high-level events and meeting exceptional professionals at venues like the New York Stock Exchange, and representing IENYC at the Federal Reserve Challenge.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The Federal Reserve Challenge led to two visits to the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, offering direct exposure to <strong>monetary systems and financial has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-03947d570ddfc46cededb214c353e949\"><em>\u201cLiving across multiple countries taught me that communication goes far beyond language. It includes cultural awareness, empathy, and context.<\/em> And in business, meaningful progress is ultimately driven by trust, relationships, and mutual understanding.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Where learning meets the real world<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Gilles\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ienyc.edu\/the-blueprint\/how-ienyc-opens-doors-new-york-beyond-graduates\/\">capstone project<\/a> focused on KIBO, a <strong>cross-border FX and payments infrastructure venture<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cMy capstone is about the real <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ienyc.edu\/the-blueprint\/how-ienyc-opens-doors-new-york-beyond-graduates\/\">story<\/a> of KIBO, an IE-born cross-border FX and payments infrastructure venture that started in September 2024.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The research examined how technology-enabled financial infrastructure could reduce friction in cross-border payments in emerging markets.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-aa55bd15be70f244eee42d809eead3b7\"><em>\u201cThe project addresses structural inefficiencies in cross-border foreign exchange and payments in Latin America, where businesses and NGOs face high costs, slow settlement, limited access to hard currency, and fragmented compliance processes.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text is-stacked-on-mobile\"><figure class=\"wp-block-media-text__media\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1000\" height=\"667\" src=\"https:\/\/www.ienyc.edu\/the-blueprint\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/shutterstock_2603902743.jpg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-52364 size-full\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.ienyc.edu\/the-blueprint\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/shutterstock_2603902743.jpg 1000w, https:\/\/www.ienyc.edu\/the-blueprint\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/shutterstock_2603902743-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.ienyc.edu\/the-blueprint\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/02\/shutterstock_2603902743-768x512.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1000px) 100vw, 1000px\" \/><\/figure><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p>One of the central findings:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cOne of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ienyc.edu\/the-blueprint\/how-ienyc-opens-doors-new-york-beyond-graduates\/\">key insights <\/a>was that inefficiencies in cross-border payments are not merely technical, but institutional and regulatory.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project required applying:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Systems thinking<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Impact measurement<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Financial analysis<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Risk management<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Stakeholder analysis<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-7a29e4ecafa23ac06555eb85d04f269b\"><em>\u201cEqually important was the program\u2019s emphasis on systems thinking, understanding how finance, regulation, technology, and social outcomes interact in complex environments. The hardest part was designing something institutional and compliant in a corridor defined by regulatory uncertainty, banking constraints, and liquidity risk.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Reflecting on the process:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-5d1814b294dbe5db34859407a26c02ca\"><em>\u201cI was surprised by how closely academic and institutional research could align with real-world execution when approached thoughtfully.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He describes the experience in three words: <strong>\u201cChallenging, grounding, transformative.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">The NYC factor<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>New York expanded his exposure to the <strong>investment and technology ecosystem<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-media-text has-media-on-the-right is-stacked-on-mobile\" style=\"grid-template-columns:auto 31%\"><div class=\"wp-block-media-text__content\">\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-38f7eb6e04116437231336970c924bc9\"><em>\u201cAttending industry events across crypto, financial services, and startups enabled me to build meaningful connections that translated into partnerships and early opportunities for KIBO. Despite strong conviction, the venture ultimately failed. Our goal is to build systems that serve both the smallholder farmer and the multinational enterprise with the same efficiency, transparency, and reliability.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He defines impact pragmatically.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-d5a9a59fd0f631ebdbadac1a27051189\"><em>\u201cTrue impact lies in creating inclusive solutions that scale responsibly and address real economic needs.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>And looking back:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-cyan-blue-color has-text-color has-link-color has-medium-font-size wp-elements-1a3e543bee2ec29e215b94bff3cad311\"><em>\u201cIENYC played an important role in shaping not only my professional trajectory but also my values as a founder.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Interested in more IENYC Hustle stories?
